Dentrix Imaging Update: Where Did Dexis Go? Everything You Need to Know

If you logged into Dentrix after a recent update and immediately wondered, “Where did Dexis go?”—you’re not alone.

That’s exactly what happened in my office. We came in after the weekend, noticed our familiar Dexis workflow had changed, and immediately started trying to figure out what was going on.

Henry Schein has now released information explaining the new Dentrix Imaging workflow, and this post will walk you through the biggest changes, what they mean for your office, and what you can expect moving forward.

Dexis Integrator Has Reached End of Support

The biggest announcement is that Dexis Integrator inside Dentrix has officially reached end of support.

Going forward, Henry Schein is recommending that practices transition to Dentrix Imaging, which is now integrated directly into the Dentrix practice management software.

This doesn’t mean Dexis itself has disappeared—it simply means Dentrix Imaging is becoming the primary imaging workflow within Dentrix.

Where Did the Dexis Images Tab Go?

One of the first things many offices noticed after updating is that the familiar Images tab is gone.

Previously, many practices had:

Images (Dexis Integrator)
Smart Imaging (Dentrix Imaging)

After the update, these have been consolidated into a single Imaging tab.

Your patient images are now accessed through this new imaging panel built directly into the patient’s chart.

Can You Still Use Dexis?

Yes.

If your office isn’t ready to fully transition to Dentrix Imaging, you can still launch Dexis.

There are two ways to do this:

Use the Launch Dexis button on the toolbar.
Configure the imaging panel so clicking the background launches Dexis instead of Dentrix Imaging.

This allows many offices to continue using the workflow they’re familiar with while learning the new system.

What Happens to Your Existing Images?

One of the biggest concerns after any imaging update is whether existing patient images are still available.

According to Henry Schein:

The last seven years of Dexis images will automatically be available within Dentrix Imaging.
As additional images finish converting, Dentrix will notify you that they’re ready to view.

This helps make the transition much smoother for practices with existing image libraries.

Do Your Dexis Sensors Still Work?

Fortunately, yes.

Your existing Dexis hardware does not need to be replaced.

When acquiring images inside Dentrix Imaging, simply select the Dexis/Kavo sensor driver and continue capturing images with your current sensors.

The hardware isn’t changing—the workflow is.

What Is Dentrix Imaging?

Dentrix Imaging is Henry Schein’s integrated imaging platform designed to bring all of your patient images into a single interface.

From one location, you can access:

Intraoral X-rays
Panoramic images
Extraoral images
Image history
Acquisition tools for capturing new images

Rather than switching between separate applications, Dentrix Imaging is designed to centralize the imaging experience inside Dentrix.

This update changes how many dental teams work every day, but it also introduces opportunities to streamline imaging workflows.
